Mrs. Mary Ruth Kennedy Ridge, 82, resident of High Point, died December 22, 2025 at Wesley Long Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
She was born May14, 1943 in High Point, one of two twin daughters to the late Robert L. Kennedy and Zelma Burton Kennedy. She was a resident of this area all her life. Following her graduation from Ledford High School and Elon College (now University) she became involved with the family business at Kennedy Oil Company, which was established in 1932 in High Point, and she later was co-owner with her sister Kay Kennedy More.
On November 30, 1963 she was married to her high school sweetheart, Harold Ray Ridge and they were married for 46 years.
In her younger years, Mary was quite the basketball player at Ledford High School and was also Miss Ledford and Miss Davidson County. She really enjoyed camping trips at the beach with family, and she was so proud of her grandchildren, Peyton and Jake. Spending time with family was something that always brought a smile to her face and is when she was happiest. One of her most happy moments was recently being able to attend her granddaughter Peyton's wedding to Nick, who she also loved dearly.
Surviving is her son, Brandon Ridge and wife Jennifer of Thomasville; her twin sister, Kay Kennedy More of High Point; two grandchildren, Mary Peyton Coleman and husband Nick of Thomasville and Jacob Bryce Ridge of Thomasville; niece Kelly Herndon and husband Brent of High Point and niece Tracy Harris and husband Tim of Southport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Ray Ridge; and her brother, Francis "Pete" Kennedy
Visitation will be on Friday, January 2nd from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. Chris Clontz officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.
