Mary Jane Risher

Jane Risher, wife of Hal D. Risher, passed away on September 5th, 2024 at River Oaks Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Forest United Methodist Church Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 1:30 – 3:00. The funeral service will follow at 3:00. Services will be conducted by Brother Chance May and Brother Doug Pierce. Burial will be in Homewood Cemetery, Homewood, Mississippi.

Jane was born December 27, 1941, in the old Baptist Hospital, Jackson, Mississippi to Robert Daniel and Vera Lovett Moore. After graduating from Forest High School in 1959, she attended East Central Community College and received a Secretarial Science certificate. Jane was employed by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Bienville Ranger District in Forest, MS for 42 years.

Jane was a lifelong resident of Scott County, MS. She was a member of Homewood United Methodist Church for eighteen years until her marriage to Hal. She became a member of Pulaski Methodist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher for children and youth. Upon moving to Forest, she joined the Forest United Methodist Church in 1980 and remained a member until her death. Jane was a devout Christian and served her FUMC as Sunday School teacher, Church Treasurer, and as a  volunteer in the Church office for over 15 years. She served as a member and treasurer of the Forest United Methodist Women and a member and past treasurer of the Daughters of The American Revolution.

Jane loved her family and valued every moment together; especially with her grandsons and great granddaughter. According to “Mawmaw”, they could never visit too much. She was especially thankful that the Lord gave them Godly wives. 

She had severe health challenges much of her life including rheumatoid arthritis, cancer and other debilitating diseases, and never compromised her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was always so thankful for her husband, Hal who was dedicated to attend to her every need. She was very blessed to have him take care of her. 

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Daniel and Vera Lovett Moore.

Survivors are her husband Hal D. Risher Sr., Son, Hal D. Risher, Jr and wife Dena of Inlet Beach, Florida; daughter, Joy Power and husband, Biff of Forest, MS; two grandsons, Brady Power and wife Kara Beth of Gluckstadt, MS ,Bryce Power and wife Alayna of Dothan, AL; one great granddaughter, Katherine Jane Power; and one brother, Bobbie Joe Moore, Forest, MS.

Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Burns, Hez Hollingsworth, Jim Marler, John Marler, Clayton Noblin, and Evan Thompson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Austin-Hunt Sunday school class:

Allen Breland, Mitzi Breland, Gayle Harrell, Robbie Sue Harrell, Lib Hill and Marion Sistrunk. Also serving as honorary pallbearers are her lifelong friends, Walter Mack and Peggy Burns and Paula and Eddie Clark.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forest United Methodist Church.
