Mary Sue Ritchie, 92, of Dayton, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born on January 23, 1934 and was a daughter of the late Leo and Blanche (Deter) Huffman.

Sue graduated from Madison College with her Bachelor's Degree in Music. She taught piano for over 50 years. Sue was the manager on the family farm. She was a member of Clover Hill Church, where she was active playing the organ, piano and in the church choir. She was part of the Celebration Singers, and in the Red Hat's. Sue loved time with her family, music, her cats, her flower gardens and traveling.

Mary was united in marriage on June 11, 1955 to L. David Ritchie.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Joe Ritchie, and Kim (Dennie) Simmers; her grandchildren, Chris (Katie) Ritchie, Austin Saadamand, Heather (Kyle) Dolph, Zoya (Joseph) Claus, Christine (Kevin) McDonaldson and Dennis (Jessica) Simmers; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy H. Shull.

A graveside service celebrating Sue's life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Clover Hill Cemetery with Rev. Sarah Bailey officiating.

Friends may pay respects and sign the register at Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to Showalter House at VMRC and to Donna Rhodes for the wonderful care of Sue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA or Cats Cradle.
