Mary Patricia (Hoff) Ritenour of Englewood CO, a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away to her eternal life on June 10, 2025 at the age of 100. Pat was a shining example of kindness, strength and grace to all who knew her. Her life was dedicated to her family, and she always found time to offer a listening ear, a warm hug, and a compassionate heart.
Pat was born in Springfield MO to her loving parents Gladys and Lewis "Bud" Hoff. She was their first child and later on her brother Phil and sister Shirley made for a family of five. She spent most of her childhood in Stockton, MO before attending Drury College in Springfield, MO. She met her husband, Glen W. (Rit) Ritenour of Lafayette, Indiana, while attending college and when Rit was on leave from the Army at Fort Leonard Wood MO.
After they were married in Springfield MO they moved to Lafayette, Indiana. Various career moves over the years with IBM found them living in Kokomo and Anderson Indiana; Nashville, Tennessee; Covina, Encino and Millbrae, California; Stamford, Connecticut; and finally to Denver, Colorado.
Pat was a member of the famous "Fish Church" in Stamford, CT and was active in many community activities. She was an avid bridge player, playing as often as three times a week in various groups. She loved to garden and particularly loved her pansies and her roses. As children, when pictures were taken, we often had to bend down and "smell the roses" to capture the perfect moment.
She was a Master Seamstress making many of the graduation and prom dresses for her children and grandchildren. Her skill with embroidery and needlepoint was extraordinary, made evident by the many pieces that were framed and placed on the walls in her home and in others. She loved watching her children and then grandchildren at swim, ballet and piano lessons, as well as volunteering in various school activities and events. She also baked the best chocolate pie anyone could ever taste!
Pat was initiated into her sorority, Delta Delta Delta at Drury College in 1943. With her two daughters present in Denver, she received the Diamond Pin for 75 + years as a dedicated Tri Delta member. She was also a proud member of the Mount Rosa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Denver.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glen W. (Rit) Ritenour, her son Richard G. Ritenour, her sister Shirley Anne Hendricks and brother Phil Lewis Hoff. She is survived by her two daughters Nancy Foxwell and Beth English, her seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Although Pat is no longer with us, her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on. There are roses in heaven for sure now! Mom, your love for us was a gift, your memory a treasure. May you Rest in Peace knowing that your love will continue to grow in our hearts.
A private family service will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver where she will rest eternally next to her husband "Rit".
