Mary Ann Romz (nee Hrastar) of Plainfield, Illinois journeyed home to our Lord on August 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 90 years young. She was born on September 25, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Sylvester and Mary Hrastar (nee Omerzel).
Mary Ann was the devoted wife of 49 years of the late William J. "Bill" Romz married on June 23,1956.
She is survived by her loving children Stephen W. (Marlene) Romz and Mary Lynn (late David H.) Mackiewich; her cherished grandsons Christopher Romz and Kevin Mackiewich and her niece Laura Shachter. Mary Ann was preceded by her beloved husband, her parents, her brother Sylvester (late Jean) Hrastar and her sister Dolores Hrastar.
She was a beautiful lady who warmed everyone's heart in her lifetime. Her beauty extended to modeling in high school, but her passion was to be a seamstress. She studied at Washburne Trade School where she graduated and designed clothes which she did throughout her lifetime. She also worked for various companies, and it was in her position at Ryerson Steel in Chicago, where she met the love of her life, William J. "Bill" Romz. Soon after meeting, they were engaged and married on June 23, 1956. Mary Ann became a full-time homemaker and raised their two children, Steve and Mary Lynn. She was active in her community and loved being with her family and friends throughout her lifetime. She loved to cook, read, and had a passion for embroidery. Her life was filled with memories and occasions showered with happiness, joy, and the most wonderful, delicious food she always prepared for everyone. With her parents, both being Slovenian, so many ethnic dishes, picnics, and polka dancing will be forever remembered and missed by her family.
She lived with her daughter, Mary, Lynn, her late husband Dave, and her grandson Kevin for the last 20 years and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and grandsons. Mary Ann will be remembered by those who know her as the most loving, compassionate, and giving person. She was always generous with her time with everyone and always made everyone smile. She was a devout Catholic and showed her love for God and her devotion to the Blessed Lady throughout her lifetime. Mary Ann will be missed beyond words and will always be forever in her family's hearts and cherished memories.
For those of you that would like to leave a lasting tribute in Mary Ann's name the family requests Catholic Masses to be offered up in her name and for her to be remembered with a prayer.
Mary Ann's family is thankful and grateful for your thoughtfulness. God bless you.
Private Immediate Family Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Plainfield, Illinois. Her final place rest will be Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Illinois.
