Obituary
Mary Grace Bray Rowe left this world on June 16, 2023, at the age of 99; while residing in Raeford, NC. She was born September 3, 1923, in Onslow County, White Oak Township, to George Hardy Bray and Nettie Jane Jones Bray. Mary started at the age of six at White Oak High School and graduated from there on May 23, 1942. She enjoyed being associated with an elite girls' basketball team and respected the loyal teachers there. She was employed at McCulloch Jewelry in Jacksonville, NC, for a short period of time before returning to her parents' farm, since labor was scarce during the war. She remained with her parents until her marriage on May 23, 1947, to Warren T. Rowe, in Conway, SC.
Mary and Warren lived in Wilmington, NC, for twelve years while Warren was employed by E. B. Towles Construction Company. They moved to Lexington, NC and other towns in North and South Carolina before settling in New London, NC. All three of her daughters graduated from North Stanly High School. Mary was employed as an inspector at Richfield Manufacturing Company until her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed the work and many friends she made there. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Dammie Collins of Jamestown, NC and Dixie Cotton of Maysville, NC. She leaves to cherish her memory a brother, William T. Bray (Jack) and wife Iva Lee of Pollocksville, NC; three daughters, Linda Steed (Don) of Raeford, NC; Sherre Mayfield of Seaford, VA; and Wanda Schofield of Reidsville, NC; three grandchildren; Ashley Steed Lavine (Kory) of St. Louis, MO; Erin Mayfield of Richmond; VA; Matthew Schofield of Greensboro, NC and two great grandchildren, Sydney and Catherine Lavine of St. Louis, MO.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM in the Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Pollocksville, NC. Sayland Funeral Home in Maysville is honor to serve the Rowe family.
