Mary Rutsis Obituary

Mary Alice Rutsis, 79, of Royse City, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025. She was born on February 21, 1946, in Dallas, Texas - famously arriving in the back of a pink ambulance - to parents Mary Hazzie Culley and Harold Jackson Fomby.

Mary Alice lived most of her life in the Fort Worth area, where she happily shared a home with her son, Nick Rutsis, until spending the last years of her life with her daughter, Jill, in Royse City. She was a woman of quiet humor and gentle creativity, who found joy in life's simple comforts - a good cup of coffee, cooking, an afternoon spent painting, a favorite novel, or an episode of Jeopardy! (especially when she found herself laughing at the questions she missed).

She is survived by her children, Jill Jackson and Nicholas Rutsis; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Helen Traweek and Jack Fomby, and preceded in death by her daughter, Antoinette Santiago, her parents and siblings Janice Lane and Jerry Fomby.

Mary Alice's kindness, curiosity, and love for the little things will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
