On August 7, 2025, Mary Agnes Satterly, 82, passed away in the comfort of her home and wrapped in the care of her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a zest for life that warmed the hearts of all those who knew her. Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Satterly; her parents Frances Cooper Cissna and John William Cooper; and siblings Steven Cooper and Ted Cooper. She will be deeply missed and remembered by her three beloved children Jim (Patty) Satterly, Kim Satterly, and Tammy Jackson; siblings Gary (Victoria) Cissna, John (Jessie) Cooper, Jim (Cheryl) Cooper, and Christine (Tom) Vannoy; grandchildren Christina (Jeremy) Copeland, Jeff Satterly, Hollie (Dan) Holbach, Samantha (Luke) Roach, and Josh Jackson; great grandchildren Riley Holbach and Blake Holbach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was born on September 2, 1942, in Scammon, Kansas but spent most of her years in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended high school at Lawrence Central, where she met her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Jerry Satterly. The two were married shortly after and built a life together filled with adventure, travel, and family. Mary, or "Mouse" as those closest to her called her, loved her family fiercely and dedicated her life to supporting those she cared for most. She never hesitated to drive across the country for a softball tournament, tirelessly coach her children's teams, or spend hours in the kitchen cooking one of her favorite recipes for a friend. She was her family's biggest cheerleader, never missing a single sports game, choir concert, birthday party, graduation, or school play for any of her children or grandchildren. Mary had a passion for traveling, camping, and being outdoors. The mountains of Alaska always held a special place in her heart. She spent many weekends with her family at "The Lake", their property in Clay City, Indiana where they would host many for fishing, campfires, hiking, and inevitably, an intense game of cards. A vivacious hostess, Mary enjoyed entertaining and throwing parties where she ensured that there was never a shortage of fun, laughter, and food. When she wasn't with her family, Mouse enjoyed playing Bingo, where it seemed as if she usually won more often than she lost.
Later in life, Mary embodied all the qualities of a devoted caretaker when Jerry developed Alzheimer's Disease at an early age. Mary selflessly dedicated herself to caring for him, always putting his needs above her own. Later, Mary moved to Cape Coral, Florida along with her children. It was there that she developed a blossoming social life through her senior center. While her time in Florida was short, she established deep friendships that she cherished and spoke of frequently. Throughout her life, her faith in God remained a prominent, driving force in everything she did. Her favorite Hymn was "The Little Brown Church in the Vale"
A celebration of Mary's beautiful life will be held in Cape Coral in the coming weeks.
