Mary was born November 3, 1939, near Garnavillo, Iowa, the daughter of George and Leona (Matt) Schaefers. After moving to Volga, she attended the Volga School.
She was known for pampering her cats, her beautiful embroidery work, her flowers, and spending time with friends and family. She was a proud member of the Volga TOPS Chapter, and later became a KOPS.
Mary is survived by one brother, Lavern (Connie) Schaefers of Wadena, sixteen nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Francis (Pearl) Schaefers, brother and sister-in-law, Gregory (Marge) Schaefers and sister and brother-in-law, Lois (Harold) Mueller.
The family extends a special thank you to all the staff at the Elkader Care Center for the care of Mary over the years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 9 to 11AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga – with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM.
Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Volga.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
