Rogersville: Robert J. "Bob" Schaefers, age 84, of Rogersville, went to join his departed wife, Joann on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton, TN. Born and raised in Beaver Falls, PA on July 3, 1941 to the late Alfred and Clara Schaefers. At the age of 18 he joined the United States Air force stationed in Washington, DC where he met his wife, Joann and were later married and had a son, Robert "Bobby" Schaefers, Jr. Upon being honorably discharged from service he and Joann added two daughters to their family Donna and Pam. The five of them moved to several different towns and states before settling in Rogersville. Bob worked in many manufacturing facilities in the area before retiring. He enjoyed serving his community. Bob was a former member of the Hawkins County Rescue Squad, a founding member and former member of the Persia Volunteer Fire Department and served in various other organizations. He was of the Baptist faith and served in different capacities and levels in different capacities and levels in many area churches. His home church at his death was Hope Community Church where he was one of several men and women who helped organized and create the church "with God leading the way" to what it is today. Bob loved his family, country, community, and serving God. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Joann who he dearly missed.
He is survived by his son, Robert "Bobby" Schaefers, Jr. and wife, Rene; daughters, Donna Collins and husband, Rick, Pam Buckner and husband, Tony; two grandchildren, Samantha Schaefers and Colten Buckner both who he loved dearly; two sisters, Miriam Melfy and Claire Schaefers both of Erie, PA; sister-in-law, Joyce Weems and husband, Don; brother-in-law, Jimmy Wallen and wife, Karen; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Darryl and Carolynn Gardner; special neighbors, Tex and Robin Tipton; host of friends and family members and his church family. Special thanks to all who took care of dad at Sycamore Shoals Hospital who took care of him in his final days. God bless all of you.
Visitation hours will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Hope Community Church Rogersville Campus. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 7:00 P.M., with Rev. Rip Noble officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Camp Hope, 1069 Old Union Rd., Church Hill, TN 37642 or the Dementia Society of America.
