A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Lou Scherer, 97 of Timber Lake, SD will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 4:00 pm with a Rosary Service at 5:00 pm. Interment will take place at the Timber Lake Cemetery. Mary Lou died on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.

Mary Lou Scherer (Becker) was born to Ray and Margaret Becker (Heil) on April 1, 1928. She was the oldest of 8 children who were all raised on the family farm north of Eagle Butte.

After high school, she and her sister Marce worked in Rapid City cleaning houses. Mary Lou eventually moved to Timber Lake and worked with Lois Coyle (Holzer) at the FSA for Mary Lou's future father-in-law, Clem Scherer. Bob fell in love with her at first sight! They were married on June 13, 1949, and were married 62 years when Bob passed away in 2011.

Mary Lou was a very artistic and resourceful person. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She was good at drawing what she saw and writing notes on anything she thought was important! She could make something beautiful out of anything available. She was a member of Holy Cross Altar Society for many years, a member of the Garden Club, Birthday Club, and in a bowling league.

Mary Lou is survived by their children Richard (Renee) Scherer, Lenore (Jim) Smith, Joe (Sheila) Scherer, Patricia Keller, Cindy (Steve) Gebhart, Marsha (Jerry) McAdams, 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and one great grandchild; sisters Marce McGuire, Virginia Storey, Donna Bowker, and sister-in-law Carol Becker..

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, her two sisters Peggy Simmers, and Charlotte Hartel, and two brothers Darold and Donald Becker.
