Mary Elizabeth Scott

Mary Elizabeth Scott, 95, born July 14, 1929, died on December 22, 2024. Wife of William M. ("Buck") Scott, III, long term residents of Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was the mother of Mary Scott (Chris Connery), Sally Moser (Perc), Cackie Scott (Brian Vesley), Caroline McIlhenney (the late Joe), Bar Scott (Brent Bruser), and Bill Scott, (Jill); grandmother of ten, and great-grandmother of six. She was born in Philadelphia to Joseph J. and Elizabeth Furst Klumpp. Variously know as Mary, Mary Liz, or Lizzie, she died at home in Wynnewood, PA where they lived for 60 years. A 1946 graduate of Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA, she majored in Physics at Smith College in Northampton, MA. After graduating in 1950, she started work at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Laboratory in Chestnut Hill. She and her husband married during the Korean War, before he went to that conflict in the U.S. Army. Five of their six children were born in Greensburg, Westmoreland County PA, where the couple lived for ten years before returning to the Philadelphia suburbs. After the childhood of her sixth child, she worked at Bryn Mawr College in the Physics Department, and taught many hundreds of graduate students, women and men, about basic physics. She was there for 20 years, and gained a Master's degree herself before retiring 25 years ago.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 4th. at 11:00 am at The Church of the Redeemer, 230 Pennswood Rd. Bryn Mawr, PA. The service will be livestreamed at www.theredeemer.org
