Mary Machelle Scruggs, affectionately known by everyone as “Missy,” age 56, passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most.
Missy was born to the late Alice and Roy Voris, and from the start, she brought laughter and light into the lives of everyone around her. She had a heart as big as her smile and a gift for making people feel seen, loved, and cared for.
Missy shared her life with her loving partner, Everett Parrish, and was a devoted mother to Charles Polston, the late Christopher Polston, Crystal Polston, and Cayla Polston. Being a mom was one of her greatest joys — and that love only grew when she became “Mimi” to Skyler Polston, Drake Murphy, Jayden Polston-Redmond, Timothy Polston, and Amara Murphy. Her grandkids were her pride and joy, and she never missed a chance to tell them just how much she loved them.
For nearly 20 years, Missy worked as a maintenance technician in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Naples, Florida, where she was known for her strong work ethic, quick wit, and willingness to help anyone in need. Her dedication and pride in her work reflected her genuine care for others.
In 2022, Missy was diagnosed with cancer, a challenge she faced with extraordinary courage, grace, and determination. Even in the hardest moments, she kept her humor, her strength, and her love for life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Roy Voris, her brothers Donald Johnson and Leon Voris, and her beloved son Christopher Polston.
Missy was known for her sense of humor, her stubborn streak, and her fierce love for family. She loved simple pleasures — time spent with loved ones, a good laugh, and making memories that will last forever.
Though she may be gone from our sight, Missy’s spirit lives on — in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love she gave so freely. Her memory will continue to bring comfort and light to all who were blessed to know her.
Per Missy’s request, no service will be held.
