Mary Simpson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fern Creek Funeral Home - Louisville on Dec. 31, 2025.
Mary Joan Simpson, 90, a native of Louisville, KY passed on Monday December 22, 2025. She started her working career at her father's store location of Scotty's Market grocery store and eventually retired from National City Bank.

She loved watching U of K basketball with family and friends. Spending her days in the yard gardening with her grandchildren. She adored spending any time with all her grandchildren, and weekend shopping trips to K-Mart. She enjoyed going to the Casino boat to gamble, enjoy great food at the buffet and concerts. She always said we would go for the buffet but we all knew better! Later in life she loved spending time with her Great Grandchildren. You could just see her eyes sparkle and her face glow with love and joy when she saw any of them. She would just light up, she adored them all. She also loved all her four legged furry companions. Some who were waiting to greet her upon her arrival.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Catherine Raible. Her two sons Gregory and Jeffrey Schum. Her husband Eugene Simpson and her first husband Ronald Schum. As well as her sisters Janie Herndon and Patricia Hunt and brother in law Ed Hunt.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Tanya Gregory (Whitney); her grandchildren Kristina, Whitney Jr, Michael (Jackie), Staci (Chad), Jeffrey, Scott and Sarah. Her Great Grandchildren Matthew, Riley, Emily, Chase and Emma. And some Great Grandchildren she didn't get the pleasure to meet. Her sister Joyce Kaelin (Richard). As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial service is 6pm Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40291. Memorial visitation is after 2pm until the time of the service.
