Mrs. Mary Smart, age 72, of Presque Isle, passed away Tuesday, August 13th, 2024.
She was born September 20th, 1951, in a small town in Maine, a daughter of the late Ervine Grant and Catherine Grant.
Mary is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Smart; children, John Jr. his wife Michelle, and daughter Cheryl. Grandchildren, Chelsea, Taylor, Adrianne, her husband Ryan, Ian and Braeden; 2 great grand children Bryce and Quin, 2 brothers, Ervine JR his wife Arlene, Zane and his wife Darlene; and 2 sisters; Myrtle, Jean, and her husband Roland (Putt).
She was proceeded in death by her sister, Ella, brother-in-law Thomas, and grandson Damon.
Mary was a past state president of the New Hampshire VFW ladies auxiliary, and a life member of the Dale city auxiliary 1503. When her husband John served as the VFW commander-in-chief, she had the opportunity to travel to several foreign countries visiting military service members around the world. She had a passion for veterans and military personnel.
Her husband John, a Vietnam veteran, retired after 21 years with the Nashua Fire Department. He was elected State Representative Congressional District 28, 1993-1994 Nashua and served on the Board of Managers at the New Hampshire Veterans Home for 15 years.
Leading up to her retirement, Mary was a caregiver providing in-home services for elderly families, which she loved dearly.
She enjoyed arts and crafts; especially puzzles, shopping and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Cancer Program. Located at 406 West 34th street Kansas City, MO 64111.
