Mary Lee Smith, age 92 passed away on February 21, 2024 at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Mary was born on November 28, 1931 to Allie Coleman and Major Hill in Meridian Mississippi.
Mary was a part of a large family and graduated from High School in Mississippi. She met her loving husband Charles Smith and married in Mississippi. She had many hobbies including gardening, cooking, and fishing. Beyond those interests, she focused her life on her wonderful family and cherished spending time with all of them. Mary was employed at Mercy hospital and St Anthony’s Cathedral where she met many friends while helping others.
Preceding Mary in death was her parents, Allie and Major Hill; husband, Charles Harold Smith; daughter, Anita Buchanan; siblings; Rosanna Hill, Arcina Straight, Adline Hill, Katherine Hill, Allie Overstreet, Fanny Bell Hill, Aron Hill (Uncle Hop), Major Hill Jr, Arthur Lee, Bunk Hill, Doony Hill, Roosevelt Hill, Johnny Hill, Leo Hill, Louis Hill, Twins- Denmo and Venmo Hill, and Mandy Hill
Those left to cherish her memories are her kids, Kimmy (Brenda) Smith, Charlie Smith, Sandy Curry, Rusty Smith, Willie (Tammy) Smith, Mary Hill, Lora Hill. Grandchildren include Tyan Smith, Tyson Smith, Dashawn Smith, Deandre Smith, London Cropp-Smith, Latoya Cropp-Smith, Ronnell Calaway, Cheria Muston, Martell Jordan, LaKeisha Jordan, Casey Rolo, Jennifer Smith, Vanessa Smith, Jacion Miller, Jessica Leverette, Aneka Smith, Willie Smith, Wilshya White, Nashari White, Tykesha White, Toryono White, Marlando Smith, Richard Smith, and many great-grandchildren.
