Mary Louise (Marcovich) Smith of Sioux City, Iowa aged 81 died Thursday, October 9, 2025. Mary was born in Sioux City, Iowa on March 23, 1944, to Alex and Gladys (Katzenberger) Marcovich.
Funeral services 11:00 Friday, October 17, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of the Mater Dei Parish located at 1212 Morningside Avenue with Father Peter Duc Hung Nyugen officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
She graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1962 and MSU Denver in 1990 (B.S. Accounting). Mary married Mike Smith on June 6, 1964, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sioux City. Mary was an accountant and worked for various companies before retiring in 2017. She had a feisty spirit and was an avid sports lover. Mary lived in the following states during her career, Iowa, Colorado, Oregon, Nebraska, Maryland, and Virginia.
Mary had a competitive nature that was unmistakable while frequently playing bingo and card games especially cribbage with her sister in-law Jane. She was also an outstanding southpaw bowler “in her day.”
Survivors are her husband of 61 years, Eugene Michael “Mike”, her son Kevin (Kristen) Smith, daughter Christie Smith and two grandsons (Kaiden and Kurtis Smith). sister Nancy (Michael) Southers, brother James (Ramona) Marcovich, and sister in-law Jane Marcovich.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael Alexander and sister Helen (Smith), brother Alex.
In lieu of flowers family suggests memorials to the Siouxland Human Society.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent care of Mary.
