Mary Jo Weige Smith, 94, of
Littlefield, Texas, entered eternal life on Friday, January 09, 2026, in
Littlefield, Texas. She was born on July 03, 1931, in
Littlefield, Texas to Oscar and Cecil Hollinsworth.
Mary Jo was born and raised in
Littlefield, Texas. She had a close family growing up. She graduated from Littlefield High School in 1949. Mary Jo was the FFA Sweetheart her senior year of high school. In school, leading up to her early adult years of life, she was known to be rather shy. After graduating, Mary Jo married William 'Bill' O. Weige on June 05, 1949, in
Littlefield, Texas. Mary Jo and Bill had two daughters that they loved sharing their life with. Mary Jo was a Brownie troop leader for Penny, and she was a very active mother with her daughters. Mary Jo and Bill were both members of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club and worked on the 50th. and 75th. Celebration of Littlefield together. They were married for fifty-five years and then he entered eternal life on December 05, 2004. Mary Jo remarried on October 07, 2007, to Toby Smith in Littlefield. She was married to Toby for seventeen years. She was blessed to have two great loves. Mary Jo worked as a credit manager at Sears and was a teller at First National Bank. She was also the owner of a jewelry store in the mid 70's called Yah-Ta-Hey in downtown Littlefield. She loved Southwest Indian jewelry. Mary Jo was a in a bowling league in Littlefield and had many laughs with the women in the league. Mary Jo loved her red convertible Thunderbird and took joy in the memories made using her car. Mary Jo was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as a worthy Matron. She was also an International Advisor to the Rainbow Girls' chapter.
Mary Jo also learned to crochet and made a lot of Afghans. She was a polished seamstress and had the talent of creating and mending. Mary Jo was always willing to use her hands to help others. She could make anything from girl's clothes to wedding gowns. Despite being attentive to her children and work, Mary Jo was strong in her faith and found joy in worship. She never spoke an unkind word. Mary Jo was an active member of the Littlefield Methodist Church. She faithfully sang in the choir and played the handbells. She volunteered working in the office one day a week for the church. Among the many talents that Mary Jo had, she was a gifted piano player. Her kindness was evident to all who encountered her. Above all, Mary Jo cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known as 'Nana' to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love, wisdom, and graceful presence will be deeply missed and forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.
Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved two daughters, Penny Kelton and husband Keith of
Littlefield, Texas, Pixie Grisham and husband Allen of Post, Texas; five grandchildren, Greg Kelton of Lubbock, Texas, Ryan Kelton of Leander, Texas, Christopher Grisham and wife Linda of Mineral Wells, Texas, Joshua Grisham and wife Haven of Amarillo, Texas, Jerrad Grisham and wife Kelsey of Midland, Texas; and five great-grandchildren, Eli Grisham, Will Grisham, Adelynn Grisham, Olivia Grisham, and soon on the way, Carter. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her first husband, William 'Bill' O. Weige; her second husband, Toby Smith; her parents, Oscar and Cecil Hollinsworth; and her sister, Janna Reel Johnson.
Funeral services for Mary Jo Weige Smith will be held at 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Littlefield Methodist Church in
Littlefield, Texas with Danny Sanders officiating. Visitation service is scheduled for 6:00p.m. – 7:00p.m Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Hillcrest Funeral Home in
Littlefield, Texas. Interment will be in Littlefield Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Kelton, Ryan Kelton, Christopher Grisham, Joshua Grisham, Jerrad Grisham, and Will Grisham. The family of Mary Jo Weige Smith would like to thank Calvert Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care. They would also like to thank Patricia and Becky for their wonderful, dedicated care.
