Mary Lou (Anderson) Sparks passed from this life on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born September 3, 1933, in Eureka, Texas to William D. Anderson and Jessie L. (Stribling) Anderson. Mary attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas where she was a member of Delta Beta Epsilon. Later, Mary became a member of the Business Women Association, building her career as a bookkeeper and loan teller, working for companies such as Texoline, First National Bank, and Sparks Sales for 20 years, retiring in 2010.
In addition to her professional achievements, Mary was very active with the church at Polytechnic United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Texas and the United Methodist Women. She was an Elder at Canton Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church at Weatherford, Texas, and was a part of the Women Mission in Lubbock, Texas.
Mary joined her life in marriage with Lee R. Sparks on August 27, 1980, in Weatherford, Texas. Together they made many lasting memories. She took golf lessons and developed a love for the game; Mary would play in tournaments, as well as recreationally with her family. Sometimes she would even beat her husband. Also, Mary enjoyed nature and soaking in the beauty of the great outdoors; she loved flowers and enjoyed gardening.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jessie Anderson; brother, Bobby J. Anderson; and stepson, Allen Sparks.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Lee Sparks of Granbury, Texas; sons, Ronald W. Gates, Morris G. Gates, and Russell A. Gates; step-daughters, Penny J. Gilmore and Dana D. Simmons; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and colleagues. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
