Mary Elizabeth Stewart, 83, of Middletown, RI, passed away at home with her family by her side on January 23, 2025.
Mary was born in Skowhegan, ME, on December 20, 1941. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Beatrice (Woodbury) Clark. Mary attended Madison, ME, school systems. She graduated from Springfield College with a B.S., and from Rhode Island College with a M.ED. in Guidance and Counseling. She pursued a career in education teaching in Bristol, Newport and Middletown, RI. She was employed at the Newport County YMCA and Newport Naval Base, retiring in 2006. She met her dear husband, Lloyd, and best friend in Newport, and they were married in 1967, in South Portland, ME.
Most important to know about Mary was her sense of fun, party spirit and her special love of their dear family and positive personality. She made every holiday and birthday very unique and special, never forgetting to call and send a card with her many kind words. She always found the good in others.
In 2017 Mary and Lloyd enjoyed a beautiful 50" anniversary celebration at the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina.
Besides her husband, Lloyd, she is survived by her two daughters; Kelli A. Gudz and husband Rodney of Portsmouth, RI, Bethany L. Stewart, of Portland, OR., her son; James W. Stewart and wife Carol of Burlington, CT., two grandchildren; Andrew C. Gudz, Kristen N. Gudz, her sister; Patricia A. Antonuccio and husband Gerald of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and 3 nieces.
Mary enjoyed many activities including biking, kayaking, pickleball, photography, knitting and traveling. She enjoyed all the special times spent with her dear grandchildren, Andrew and Kristen. Mary was involved with the BayRidge Condo Hospitality Committee. She was also a member of St. Columba's Chapel, Middletown, RI.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 11:00 AM in St. Columba's Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Ave, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, Mary requested that donations are to be made to your charity of choice, and to remember her by celebrating a Mary Stewart day in your own special way.
