Mary Janice (Cartwright) Sula, age 88 of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, passed from this walk of life on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Ash Flat, Arkansas.
She was born in Hemphill, Texas, on August 15, 1934, daughter of the late Vernice Sanford and Virgie Mae (Clark) Cartwright. Janice was united in marriage to Leon Wayne Sula on June 6, 1953, in Pineland, Texas, and from this union three children were born. At the age of 40, Janice returned to school to become an LPN. She never missed a day of school and worked in the nursing field in the Houston, Texas area until her retirement. Janice moved to Horseshoe Bend in 1991. She was a member of the Horseshoe Bend First Baptist Church where she taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for many years. She was an active bowler and helped host birthday parties at the local nursing home. Janice was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 60 years and helped with the Sunshine Committee.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Karen (Randy) Sherrell of Oxford, Arkansas and Laurie (David) Marshall of LaPorte, Texas; grandchildren, Carrie Johnson, Darrell Johnson, Matthew Marshall and Laura Rushing; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernice and Virgie Mae Cartwright; husband, Leon Sula; son, Donald Sula; brother, Gerald Cartwright; and great-grandson, Payton Sherrell.
Pallbearers include: David Marshall, Randy Sherrell, Willie Moser, Darrell Johnson, Matthew Marshall and Joe Moser.
Funeral Services will be held, Friday, October 21, 2022, at Doty Family Funeral and Memorial Service Chapel in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas beginning at 12 p.m. with Bro. Eric Ertle officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Violet Hill Cemetery in Violet Hill, Arkansas.
