Mary M. Tharp, 103, of Media, PA, passed away on November 27, 2025.
Born October 19, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jonathan McMinis, Sr. and Mary (née Mozer) McMinis.
Mary graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1940. She earned a full scholarship to attend Temple University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. After graduation, Mary enjoyed a long and successful career with Blue Cross, where she worked for more than 30 years until her retirement.
Mary was very philanthropic, donating to many charities and creating her own scholarship fund to benefit more than 30 Upper Darby High School students over many years. Mary’s legacy lives on through continued contributions from her estate.
Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Randall Tharp, and her siblings, Eleanore Barr and Jonathan McMinis, Jr. She will be missed by many friends and family, including the residents and staff of Lima Estates.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made out and sent to the Upper Darby High School Scholarship Fund, 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
Mary’s smile, kindness, sharp mind, and generosity will be deeply missed.
