Mary L. Unsworth, 85, of Massillon, passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, October 19, 2025. Born in St. Marys, West Virginia, March 24, 1940, a daughter to the late Samuel H. and Millie M. (Patterson) Winland, Mary had been an area resident for most of her adult life. An undeniably hard worker, she'd been employed by several area manufacturers until finally retiring from the Hoover Company in North Canton, after 20 years of faithful service.
A devoted wife and a loving and supportive mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Mary placed her husband and family at the center of her life. Remembered for how she enjoyed trips to Mountaineer casino, playing cards or board games with the family, the wonderful meals she created, or the time she and her husband, Jerry, spent with family and friends at their cottage on the Muskingum River, these thoughts are only part of her story. The beauty of her life was the selfless, unconditional love and caring she gave her family – especially her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were and remain the apple of her eye.
Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Jerold L. "Jerry" Unsworth; her brothers, William, Johnny, Harry, Joe, and Simon Winland, sisters, Ruth Winland Farnsworth, Mae Meeks, Peggy Winland, and an unnamed infant sibling; Mary is survived by her children, Tammy (John) Mayles, of Massillon, Teddy Flitcraft, of Hohenfels, Germany, and Tracy Flitcraft, of Aurora, Colorado; step-daughter, Gina (Cash) Naftzger, step-son, Danny Unsworth; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial will be completed at a future date.
Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Mary's on-line guestbook.
