Mary VanVoorhis Obituary Mary S. VanVoorhis, age 81, longtime resident of Shelby, Ohio passed away February 5, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Home & Villa in Ashland, Ohio.
Born February 16, 1943 in Wayland, KY to Gomer and Maude (Conley) Gibson, Mary was a 1960 graduate of Wayland High School. She went on to pursue a career in nursing, finding her calling in caring for others. Mary moved to Shelby in 1972, where she spent 25 years at Shelby Memorial Hospital. Later, she worked at the Mansfield Correctional Institution before retiring.
Mary was a devoted mother who raised her family in Shelby. She loved attending local sporting events to watch her children compete and cherished spending time with her loved ones. She was immensely proud of her family, and her love for them was always evident.
Mary is survived by her children: Kelly (Sue) Stanford of Shelby, Keith (Kelly) Stanford of Petersburg, Michigan, Michael Stanford of Shelby, Kara (Stuart) Hudson of Westerville, Ohio and Ken Williams of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Delores Baker of Wayland; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, G. Kevin Stanford; her brothers, Marcus, Lowell and Don Gibson; and sisters, Donna Collins, Shirley Nolley, and Maxine Hall.
She will be remembered for her selflessness, her nurturing spirit and the love she shared with all who knew her.
Friends and family may call at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1pm to 3pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home with Pastor James Robinson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to the organization of the donor's choosing.
