Mary Vetter Obituary
Mary Hicks Vetter, aged 62, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in her hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. Born in Wilmington on December 5, 1963, she spent her life dedicated to her family, career, and passions.
Devoting over 17 years of her professional life to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Admissions, Mary was known for her compassion, commitment, and unwavering support for those in need. Her work touched countless lives in her community, bringing comfort to those facing difficult times.
Mary's love for music, family, and ocean cruises brought immense joy to her life and to those around her. A woman of faith, she attended and was an active member of the Ladies Group at Elevation Church, where she found fellowship and friendship.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ronald Hicks, Sr. and Harriett Wells Hicks, and her brother, Dennis Hicks, Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Marvin Y. Vetter, who resides in their family home. She leaves behind two cherished daughters, Tabitha Skipper and husband Shawn of Youngsville, North Carolina, and Krysten Kellerman and husband Stephen of Calabash, North Carolina. Mary will be greatly missed by her brothers, Ron Hicks and Marvin Hicks, and her sisters, Nikki Johnson and Michelle Rowell. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Nathaniel, Matthew, Sarah, and Victoria; several nieces and nephews, who were the light of her life.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel. Friends and family are invited to gather in memory of a remarkable woman who enriched the lives of so many.
