Mary Margaret Vokes, 80, of Ann’s Choice, and formerly a longtime resident of Ambler passed away on January 14, 2026 at Jefferson Abington Hospital.
Mary was born on September 3, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Charles and Mary (née Kelly) Nelligan. Though of humble beginnings, she went on to earn an associate’s degree from Manor College while working and raising her two children. She worked as the Medical Technology Laboratory Supervisor most recently at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children before retiring in 2015.
Mary was kind, patient and generous, a woman of strong integrity and high ideals. She was deeply loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. An avid reader with a lifelong passion for learning, Mary delighted in discovering something new each day. Reading, solving crossword puzzles, and other intellectual pursuits kept her mind active and sharp.
Above all, Mary cherished her family and held a steadfast faith in God. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, where her faith and community were an important part of her life.
She is survived by her two children, Beth (Mike) Ward and Brian (Kathi) Vokes, and two grandchildren, Jordan and Madison Vokes.
In addition to her parents and older brother, Patrick Nelligan, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Clive “Richard” Vokes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, 4 S Ridge Ave, Ambler, PA 19002. Family and friends may call and visit at the church before the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate gifts be made in Mary’s name to the Benevolence Fund at Ann’s Choice where she happily lived out her last days. (Ann’s Choice Philanthropy Department - 215-443-3999)
