Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wetzel Funeral Home - Hanover on Jul. 15, 2024.
Mary Elizabeth (Wentz) Warner, of Selby, SD, formerly of Manchester, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at her son's home (David & Sandy) in Selby. She was the beloved wife of the late Archie L. Warner, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage before his passing in January of 2019.
Born March 9, 1930 in Glenville, PA, she was the daughter of the late James I. and Sallie L. (Walker) Wentz.
Mary trusted Christ as her Savior on August 15, 1947. Throughout her life she not only told others about the love of Jesus in saving sinners, but used her talents for the Lord. As a teenager she sang with her sisters in Church ministry. Before and after her marriage she sang with Archie in many Churches and Nursing Homes. She also sang in the Missionary Bible Ladies Trio. Even in the last months she attended worship service in Mobridge, SD, and her voice could be heard singing the old hymns of the faith.
Mary was known for her Ham and Chicken dinners with all the fixings and always had a great variety of desserts. She would take food and baked goodies to a neighbor that was recovering from surgery or sickness and also share the Gospel. Her meals extended to special speakers and groups that were ministering in her church, right up until the time that Archie passed away. If someone was just dropping by to visit grandma, she would always have barbecue (sloppy joe), baked beans, and hot apple pie with many desserts. Most of all, Mary was a loving Mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and loved being able to spend time with her family. Family that visited her, certainly knew her concern for everyone to know the Lord as Savior.
Mary is survived by her three children: Esther L. Wolford of East Berlin, PA; David L. Warner and his wife Sandra of Selby, SD; and Philip L. Warner and Carole of Spring Grove, PA; sixteen grandchildren and fifty great grandchildren and six great-great children. Her surviving siblings: Helen Pullin, Jesse Wentz, Sally Ann Wagner, Ruth Lombardi, Pearl Smith and her husband Lloyd. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorcas I. Warner; three brothers, Sterling, William, Donald; two sisters, Dorothy Keagy and Doris M. Strack, and a son-in-law, Dana Wolford.
A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Missionary Bible Baptist Church, 920 Beck Mill Rd.,
Hanover, PA, with Pastor Mark Rohnke officiating. Burial will follow at St. David's Cemetery, Hanover. Pallbearers will include David Warner, Jr., Jared Warner, Josiah Warner, Levi Warner, Jesse Wentz, and Leroy Wentz.
