David Scott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wetzel Funeral Home - Hanover on Feb. 4, 2026.
David Lee Scott, 74, of Hanover, formerly of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 2, 2026. He was the devoted and loving husband of Angela (Royal) Scott, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage filled with partnership, laughter, and unwavering support.

Born May 30, 1951, in Portsmouth, Virginia, David was the son of the late Claude Winfred Scott and Ida Laura (Atkins) Scott. He was raised in Fayetteville, NC, where he met the love of his life in high school typing class. He graduated in 1969, and the couple married in 1971, beginning a lifelong journey together.

After attending community college, David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 11 years. During his service, he was primarily stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, developing the skills and discipline that shaped his lifelong career. Following his military service, he became a Certified Surgical Assistant, and continued his work in healthcare at Southern Maryland Hospital and later at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. David was exceptional at his work, deeply respected in his field, and took great pride in caring for others. His career not only fulfilled him personally but provided steadfastly for his family until his retirement in 2016.

Outside of work, David embraced life with enthusiasm and warmth. He loved fishing and treasured time spent at Lake Anna, Virginia. Nothing meant more to him than his family and friends. He delighted in whatever his grandchildren were passionate about, whether Disney princesses and tea parties or Lego and Marvel adventures, gladly joining in and making their interests his own. He was a loyal Washington Redskins fan, known for his outgoing nature, quick humor, and ability to make any gathering more fun. David truly was the life of the party and never missed a chance to laugh and help others do the same.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael D. Scott and his wife Christine of Hanover; his daughter, Kristin R. Scott of York; his grandchildren, Morgan J. Holden, Hannah N. Scott, and Camden J. Scott; and his great-nephew, Glenn Bill, whom he loved like a grandchild. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends.

There will be no public viewing. Following cremation, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please check www.wetzelfuneralhome.com for updated service details.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Roots for Boots, PO Box 213, New Oxford, PA 17350.
