Mary V Wilmes, 86, of Sioux City, IA passed away at a local hospital on August 25, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, August 28th, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Parish-St. Michael's Catholic Church, located at 2223 Indian Hills Dr, Sioux City, with Fr. Roger Linnan officiating. A luncheon will follow at the St. Michael’s Parish Center. After the luncheon, burial will take place at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Oyens, Iowa. The Rosary recitation will begin Wednesday, August 27 at 5:00pm at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd, in Sioux City, followed by visitation with a Scriptural Wake service at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Mary's Choice or to the Carmelite Nuns in Mary's name.

Mary was born August 19, 1939, in Heron Lake, Minnesota the first of three children to Frank and Virginia (Goetzinger) Wilmes. She grew up in Oyens, IA and went to Catholic schools, completing her education in 1957 at St. Mary’s High School in Remsen, Iowa.

After completing her education, Mary worked a short time at Younkers. Following her time there, she was employed at Sioux Tools, dedicating many years until they closed operations in Sioux City.

Survivors include sisters-in-law, Louise Wilmes and Pam Wilmes; nephews and nieces, Michael (Gina) Wilmes, Chris (Kate) Wilmes, Mark Wilmes Jr, Kevin (Susan) Wilmes, Shelly (Ed) Rotert, Lisa Jarrett, Theresa (John) VanEldik, Jodi Fiscus, Laurie (David) Bentson, Ryan (Meg) Wilmes and Matthew (Kathryn) Wilmes along with numerous great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia; brothers, Mike Sr. (March 2025) and Mark (November 2007); two great-nieces, Amanda and Alyxandrea Mae; and great-nephew, Benedict James.
