Mary Angela Elizabeth Zagame (nee Alessi), a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mary's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her boundless capacity to care for others.
Mary's journey began in the heart of Philadelphia, but in 1978, she planted her roots in Cherry Hill, where she would cultivate a life filled with joy, family, and service. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to Donald R. Zagame, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they raised their son, Richard (Sarah) Zagame, who brought them immense pride and joy. Mary was a loving sister to Alfred Alessi Jr and the late Anthony Alessi, and a doting grandmother to Richard and Annabelle, who were the light of her life.
For many years, Mary ran an in-home childcare, where she watched over 34 children, nurturing each one with a love as if they were her own. Her home was a haven of warmth and kindness, where laughter filled the air, and every child felt the embrace of her caring spirit. Mary's dedication to these children left an indelible mark on countless families, a legacy of love that will be remembered for generations.
Mary's interests were a reflection of her joyful spirit. She found solace in the sands of Wildwood, NJ, where the shore was a backdrop to many happy family gatherings. An avid card player, Mary's laughter was a staple of game nights, and her love for animals showcased her compassionate nature. Above all, Mary was selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own, a true embodiment of generosity.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday October 31st from 10-10:45 AM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 100 Willowbend Rd., Marlton, NJ 08053. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday at the church. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
