Dr. Maryala Krishna

Dr. Maryala Krishna lived a remarkable and deeply impactful life. His journey - from being the first in his family to earn a PhD in genetics to immigrating to the United States in the 1970s - stands as a legacy of courage, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity.
His career in cytogenetics spanned several renowned institutions, including Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, SRI International in California, and Columbia University in New York City. He went on to serve as Medical Director of the Cytogenetics Laboratory at Winthrop University Hospital and at New York University, dedicating his life's work to advancing science and improving patient care.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Krishna cherished his 42 years in New York and the life he built with his beloved wife, Sindu. He was a devoted father to Nikhil and Sushma, father-in-law to Sanchita and Vesh, and a proud grandfather to his four grandchildren - Naveen, Priya, Jai, and Deven. His greatest joy was his family, and his love, guidance, and example will live on through them.
