Maryann Hammond, born on November 24, 1952, in Atchison, Kansas, passed away on December 1, 2025, in her hometown. As a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, she enjoyed creating various forms of art, from painting to weaving cloth. She is remembered fondly for her quiet nature and the devoted service she provided throughout her career, most notably at the Kansas City Water Department, where she worked for many years.
Maryann's gentle spirit resonated with those who had the privilege of knowing her. While she often preferred the company of her beloved cats, her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many who knew her.
She is survived by her sister, Susie (Carol Hammond) Chapman and her sister-in-law, Rosemary Stein and her sons, Robert and Richard. Maryann is also preceded in death by her parents, Marvin D. Hammond and Anne M. (Kincaid) Hammond, and her brother, Roger Hammond.
As we reflect on Maryann’s life, we celebrate her contributions to her family, especially the care she provided to her mother and the love she shared with those around her. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Service care being provided by the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
