Mary Ann Jozwiak was born January 11, 1927 in Springdale Washington to Eugene and Kathryn Conrad. It was a home birth as the hospital burned down that day. She was the 7th of 8 children, growing up on a farm. Mary Ann graduated from High School early and moved to Seattle. She found a job working as a clerk for the Army during World War II.
Mary Ann met her future husband, Robert (Bob) at a wedding the day after he was discharged from the Marines. It was not quite love at first sight, but according to her, he was persistent and scared everyone else away. They were married on March 20th, 1948. Because of Bob's job, they moved all around Washington State raising 5 children during that time. The finally settled in Vancouver, Washington in 1973.
Mary Ann firmly believed in volunteering. She was active in the church and schools and was a longtime volunteer at Friends in Service to Humanity ( F.I.S.H.). At different times in her life, she was a scout leader, PTA president, room mother, deacon, and knitted hundreds of hats for Share House. She also spent countless hours at sporting events, school programs and dance recitals for her children and grandchildren.
Her family is what mattered most to Mary Ann. There are many fond memories of holidays and celebrations at her house.
Outliving her husband and siblings, she is survived by her 5 children, Robin (Lonnie) Thompson, Robert (Bev) Jozwiak, Ramona (Jim) Hymas, Roger (Connie) Jozwiak, and Renee (Bryan) Neth. Additionally, she was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Her Memorial Service will be at the First Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Vancouver on Saturday June 28th, at 1:00. In her memory, please make a donation to F.I.S.H, the Clark County Food bank or Friends of the Carpenter.
