Maryellen Nizza, "Ama" (nee Mooney), 79, of Ridgefield Park, NJ, formerly of North Bergen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Maryellen is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Joseph Anthony Nizza, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. She was a devoted and loving mother to her sons, Michael Joseph, Thomas John, and Joseph Anthony Jr., and an adoring mother-in-law to Daniela Nizza (nee DiDonato) and Amber Nizza (nee Cardone) She was the proud grandmother "Ama" of six, a title she cherished deeply. Her grandchildren-Mikayla, Kendra, Dylan, Max, Gabriella, and Joseph III (Trey)-were her greatest pride and joy. Maryellen is also survived by her two brothers, William and John Mooney, and her sister, Eileen Banz. She was a caring and giving aunt to her nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She shared special moments with each of her grandchildren, from playful imaginary trips on the living room staircase to cooking her famous butter pasta, noodle salad, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Her home was always full of warmth. Maryellen's love for her family was evident in everything she did, and she took immense joy in watching her children and her grandchildren flourish. Her generosity knew no bounds, and if you ever mentioned something you liked, you could be sure it would appear in your hands soon after.
Maryellen enjoyed bowling, wrestling, gardening, time in Stone Harbor, as well as her trips to Paris with her girlfriends. But it was the time she spent with her grandchildren that truly defined Maryellen's legacy. Whether it was a weekend at the beach, a family holiday, or a simple afternoon spent together, she filled those moments with love, laughter, and stories that will be passed down for generations to come.
Those who knew Maryellen will remember her for her quiet strength, her boundless kindness, and her ability to make everyone feel seen and loved. She had a heart of gold and a generosity that extended beyond her family to her many friends and neighbors. She was the kind of person who would show up when you needed her, often without being asked, and always with a smile.
Her family and friends will forever remember her for her thoughtfulness and her unwavering presence in their lives. Though she has left this world, her spirit will live on in every story, every cherished memory, and every act of kindness that she shared.
