Bridgeport ~ Marylou Conquest, 90, beloved mother and grandmother entered eternal rest Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Marylou was born in Alvord, Texas, on June 10, 1934, to Sue and Archie Nivens. She graduated from Alvord High School in 1952. She attended Decatur Baptist College and received a Bachelor of Science in education from North Texas State University, Denton, where she specialized in elementary education. In 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Jones. Marylou and Bobby were married 10 years before his passing. They had two children, Steve and Sue Ann.
In 1968, Marylou met J. Lee Conquest; they married on November 26 and moved to Bridgeport, Texas. Marylou and J. spent the next 55 years together. They shared the happiness of watching their children (Steve, Vicki, and Sue Ann) and grandchildren grow up. Their relationship was an inspiration to many.
Marylou was a schoolteacher and homemaker. She was her own, original brand of funny and knew how to commit to a bit. She was fond of piano, dogs, and kids. Marylou enjoyed staying up late, watching countless ballgames, and talking on the phone. She will be remembered for her unwavering trust in God and her love for family. Her kindness, strength, and humor-all in equal measure-made her special.
She was spirited and steadfast. Church was a top priority for Marylou; she was a member of Grace Fellowship. Marylou treasured her neighbors and was a loyal friend whom you could always call. She was passionate about the people in her life and cared deeply for others. She believed proper grammar and good manners would take you far. Marylou was grateful for her blessings and her story; she considered herself both a Bulldog and a Bull-holding two towns in her heart always.
Marylou is survived by her children, Steve (Jana) Jones, Vicki (Jerrod) Niblett, and Sue Ann (Tommy) Denton; grandchildren, Pete (Katrina) Smith, Trent Niblett, Mara Denton, Matthew (Ruth) Jones, Haley Denton (Sebastian Erdman), Payton (Levi) Taylor, Drew Jones; and great-grandchildren, Brock Smith, Bryndle Niblett, Carson Taylor, and Cooper Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, J. Lee Conquest; parents, Sue and Archie Nivens; first husband, Bobby Jones and infant son, David Jones.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Alvord. Visitation will take place prior to the service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the funeral at Alvord Cemetery.
