Marylou Gunther Obituary

Our mother, Marylou Gunther, has gone to her reward. She passed away, peacefully and painlessly, this past weekend. She was 98. As she often said, "That's my story and I'm sticking to it". And who are we to correct that story?
She was universally loved: quick to laugh, quick to correct and even quicker to forgive. She always had a word of advice or encouragement and those words came with unwavering honesty from the deep well of love and faith with which she was blessed. She was generous to a fault, always willing to put the needs of her loved ones before her own concerns.
She was pre-deceased by her beloved grandson Daniel Kelly, her niece, who she raised through adolescence and teenage years, Jeane Lonergan and her three husbands. She was married to her first husband, our father, Lawrence T. Kelly, for 29 years until his death in 1979. Her second husband was Jack Lowe, and they were married for about a year until his death in 1992. She was married to her third husband, William Gunther, affectionately known as Grandpa Bill, until his death a few years ago at the age of 101. Her parents were William and Mary Farrington of Yonkers, NY
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Karen and Richard Mahon, Lonna Kelly and John Colantuono, Timothy and Margaretha Kelly, and Brian and Dana Kelly. She is also survived by her youngest sister, seven grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren. She was always happy to spend time watching a sporting event or a performance of any kind by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
For the last few years, Marylou resided at the Putnam Ridge nursing home. She was visited daily by family members for her entire stay there, and the staff provided excellent care. She was a favorite of theirs, as she was a joy to be around, and the staff there felt about her as did all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to , the or the (formerly the Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF)).
