It's with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Mason James McGowan, age 25, who unexpectedly left us.
Born on January 12th in South Bend IN. Mason aka SMILEY was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. He had the biggest heart, adventurous spirit and brought joy,laughter and love wherever he went. It was Masons infectious smile that would light up any room and bring so much joy to everyone that was around him.
Mason was passionate about skiing, golfing and fishing. He loved to enjoy the outdoors. Mason loved the views of the mountains of Colorado. One of Masons greatest joys was spending time with his family and friends.
Mason is survived by his parents Kathy and Chris McGowan and his brother Austin McGowan. He is also survived by his Maternal Grandparents Jim and Carol Basney, and his paternal Grandmother, Susan McGowan. He also is survived by his loving Aunts, Uncles and cousins including Aunt Kelly and Uncle Chad, Cade, Cody and Kyla Hurley. Uncle Chip and Aunt Jen, Emma, Michael, Ben and Andrew Basney. Uncle Jay and Aunt Chrissy, Beau and Shelby Basney. Aunt Erin Cartwright, Michael, Alex and Luciano. Aunt Kara and Uncle Chris, John, Patrick, and Ryan Driscoll. Uncle Ryan and Aunt Steph Jack and Annie McGowan. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Dennis McGowan and his Uncle John Driscoll. Mason also leaves behind countless friends and extended family who will forever feel the impact of his presence.
Though his time with us was far too short, Mason's spirit will live on in all of our hearts forever. Mom and Dad and Austin love you so much and our hearts and spirit are forever with you. Forever and always.
A visitation for Mason will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

I can remember so many wonderful things about you, and every one of them brings a smile to my face. Your warmth, your laughter, and that unforgettable, infectious personality brought joy to everyone around you.
You touched the lives of so many, and your absence leaves a space no one else can fill.
May God bless you, and may He bless everyone who had the privilege of knowing you.

I am so deeply sorry for the loss of Mason. I know the pain of this loss. And I'm so sorry that you have to feel this. I will say prayers for you knowing the grief that you are feeling.
