On March 5, 2024, of Williamstown. Age 83. Beloved husband of the late Mariamma Mathew. Devoted father of Mercy Varghese (Varghese), Elsamma Varghese (Jose), Sabu Mathew (Minimol), Sophiyamma Mathew (Shaji), Bose Mathew (Lincy), Saju Mathew (Mini), Ancymol Mathew (Sunil), and Jincy Mathew (Biju). Loving grandfather of 19. Dear brother of Rosamma, Emmanuel, Thomas, George, Annamma, and Joseph.
"Mathew V. Pulickal, lovingly called "Appachan", was born on December 27, 1940 to Varkey Mathai and Mariam Varkey. One of seven children, Appachan was a highly disciplined and bright student, skipping two standards and graduating early at the of age thirteen. His wife is the late Mariamma Mathew. They had nine children: Mercy, Elsamma, Sabu, Sophiyamma, Bose, Saju, Ancy, the late baby Emmanuel, and Jincy. Together they lived a simple, prayerful life in Poonjar, Kerala and relocating later to Placherry to be closer to his family. In 2004, Appacchan relocated to the United States, where he continued his passions such as tending his garden and spending time with his grandchildren. If there is one saying that Appachan lived by it is "a word and stone let go cannot be called back", a testament to Appachan's silent loving character. Our Appachan is great loss to all of us and the ones who loved him. His legacy of family, simplicity, obedience, strong faith and the pursuit of education will be etched in our hearts forever."
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace/St. Mary's Church, 32 Carroll Ave., Williamstown. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15 AM. Interment All Saints Cemetery, 1300 Tuckahoe Road, Newfield, NJ 08344.
