Matt Pickett, age 30, of Amity, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
Matt was born on November 19, 1992, in Danville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Octavia Haven Pickett; his maternal grandmother, Donna Kagels; his maternal great-grandfather, Don Kagels; three unborn children; and his dog, Chewy.
Matt found the true love of his life in his eighth grade year in school when a love story began and on March 19, 2011, he married the girl of his dreams, Jessika Pettus. Together they had two beautiful little boys, who Matt cherished and even became a “fulltime” Dad, which was his favorite “job” he ever had. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing video games and was a huge Dungeons & Dragons player.
Matt was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend, whose greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, sons, and family members, who he loved with all his heart. Matt will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. While our hearts are breaking that Matt had to leave us all so soon, we take great comfort in knowing that we will see him again one day soon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jessika Pickett of Amity; two sons, who were his world, Vincent Pickett and Oliver Pickett, both of Amity; his parents, Shelly and James Vollert of Danville, Illinois, Sarah and Tracy Harris of Amity and Keith and Shelly Taylor of Bonnerdale; his siblings and their spouses, Josh and Ashleigh Pickett of Danville, Illinois, Katie and Matt Taylor of Kirby, Zach Taylor of Danville, Illinois, Becca and Derek Prince of Amity and Wanda and Tim Pierce of Watonga, Oklahoma; his two special dog-children, Ab and Monster; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
A Celebration of Matt’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, July 17, 2023, in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Danny Tillery officiating.
