Matthew E "Matt" Arnold

Matthew Edmund Arnold (Matt), age 65, Kawkawlin, passed away August 30, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side. Matt fought a courageous 3-year battle with cancer.

Matt was born to Michael & Donna (Charbonneau) Arnold, October 16, 1959, in Bay City, Michigan. He graduated from Bay City Western High School in 1977. On June 14, 1986, he married Julie Ann (McDonald) at St. Valentine Catholic Church, Kawkawlin.

Matt owned his own painting company, Arnold Painting, for several years and then went to work at Nexteer, retiring in July 2022. Matt enjoyed deer and duck hunting, and fishing with family and friends. Matt was also known to plant a thriving, bountiful garden. He and Julie spent time canning all the goodies. He was a member of Prince of Peace (St. Anne's) Catholic Church and K of C Council 3505, Linwood.

Matt is survived by his wife of 39 years, Julie (McDonald), three daughters, Noel (Marc) Bean, Emily (Aaron) Nowak, and Audrey Arnold; one granddaughter, Bonnie Bean; his father, Michael Arnold Sr., two brothers Christopher (Nancy) Arnold, Curtis (Donine) Arnold, sisters in law Patrice Arnold (Jerry) and Sheila McDonald. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews Justin (Margaret), Stacy (Josh), Brittney (Andrew), Janel (Chris), Jon, and Blake, as well as many great nieces and great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends. Matt is predeceased by his mother, Donna, his brother Michael II, his mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Doreen McDonald, and grandparents Junior and Faye Arnold, Lawrence and Eva Mae Charbonneau.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, from 3-8 p.m. at Rivertown Funeral Chapel, 209 S. Huron Road, Kawkawlin, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Matt will lie in state at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Linwood on Saturday, September 6, at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m with Rev. Fr. Patrick O' Connor presiding. In lieu of flowers you may choose to donate to Prince of Peace Catholic Church or Covenant Hospice.
