Born, April 23, 1987, in Salem, he was the son of Virgil L. III and Kelly L. Davis Backus.
He was a graduate of Beaver Local High School Class of 2006. Matthew was loved by so many. Family, who he found recovery and peace when he needed it. He loved his boys with all his heart, and he truly wanted to be the best for them. Friends, who he considered family also. He made friends so easily and everywhere he traveled. His heart was so full of love for those who called him friend, bro, dude or any of the many monikers he's known for. And then Community, he wished for his world to be harmonious, loving, and fair. He committed to helping those in need. Stories of him offering help to those in need are plentiful.
Matthew was an artist. His passion for color and music lives on through his human canvases and the memories of songs and sounds of his instruments. He found beauty in all others art. His uncanny ability to find so much art in nature was inspiring to see. He found great pleasure in sharing his art and nurturing young budding artists.
Matthew will be so missed by all those who knew him.
He will be missed by his sons, Gideon Backus Barnhouse and River Backus; siblings, Sarah Weiler (Brian) of Lawrenceville, GA., Andrea Hawk of Leetonia, Alice Backus of East Liverpool and Amanda Hall (Eric) of Leetonia and nephews, Wyatt Adkins, Dexter Backus and Marlow Hall.
A celebration of life will be held on Aug 17th at the East Palestine Country Club. 50834 Carmel Achor Rd. Negley Oh 44441. Starting at 3:00 pm.
