Matthew Jarett Byrd

Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Matthew J. Byrd, who died on August 6, 2025, in Brookhaven Mississippi.

Matt's skills and talents would have you believe he was a professionally trained auto mechanic, contractor, electrician, plumber, physical trainer, dog trainer, artist, outdoorsman, and entertainer. Matt's heart would show you that our world is better with kindness, encouragement, wisdom, strength, forgiveness, boldness, and just a touch of sarcasm.

He loved his family immensely and was especially proud of his son Conner.

Matt is survived by parents David and Linda Byrd of Clarksdale, MS, son Conner Byrd of Madison, MS, sister Amanda Byrd of Meridian, MS, her children Ash Andrews (James Ross) of Vicksburg, MS, Neil (Jessi) Andrews of Spokane, WA, maternal grandmother Phyllis Karlish of Malden, MO, uncles Terry Karlish of Bernie, MO, Mark Karlish of Malden, MO, and Daniel Karlish (Janice Baxter) of Columbus, MS. He leaves behind cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Matt is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Odis and Dorothy Byrd, aunt Marilyn Byrd, and maternal grandfather Robert Karlish.

Join us in celebrating his life on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:00am – 11:00am at Meredith Nowell Funeral Home chapel and service will be at 11:00am at Meredith Nowell Chapel in Clarksdale, MS., with interment to follow at Memorial Gardens in Lyon, MS. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Matt's favorite charity Blair E. Batson Children's hospital in Jackson Mississippi.
