Obituary of Matthew H. Daub
Matthew H. Daub Sr. passed away on May 20, 2024, after a long, hard battle with drug addiction that began at an early age. Some people looked at Matt with his shoulder length dreadlocks and clothes that hung on him and saw a junkie. Matt was so much more than his addiction.
Early in his life Matt discovered a love of all things mechanical. He could diagnose what was wrong with a vehicle by listening to the engine run. A natural ability honed working hours upon hours on tractors, trucks, and cars as a kid and teen. He didn't have a friend or family member that didn't benefit from his ability. Matt was always able to earn money turning wrenches so long as the garage owner didn't ask him to keep regular hours or refrain from using inappropriate language!
With each trip to rehab, of which there were many, there was hope for a different future. As the years passed with relapse after relapse came a new understanding of addiction and how it shaped his relationships. It was clear that to maintain his addiction Matt found himself doing things he was ashamed of when sober. Several times during his life incarceration was the only thing that kept him alive and at those times we at least knew where he was.
For years we feared his addiction would take him from us but in the past few years it seemed he had found a way to live with his demons. During that time, he reestablished relationships with his children, Matthew Jr., Brandon, Brianna, and Kayden. Matt also greeted his first grandchild Carson who lit up whenever Matt was nearby. It was wonderful to see him enjoying his family at Carson's first birthday celebration.
The news of Matt's overdose hit us hard. The thought that he had lost his battle with addiction seems unreal. For those of you who are reading this and struggling with addiction, please ask for help. For those of you who may sit in judgement, please educate yourself about addiction and the effect it has on individuals and families.
Matt is predeceased by his mother Debora Kowalski and his sister Melissa Egan. Matt leaves behind his father Jeffrey Daub, his siblings Brian Daub, Sarah Hinkle and Nathaniel Nearing, his daughter Brianna Daub, his sons Matthew Daub Jr., Brandon Daub and Kayden Daub, as well as his grandson Carson. There are too many family members, and friends that were like family, to mention here but you all know who you are.
In August there will be a celebration of life with details posted on Facebook for family and friends. If you wish to leave a memory or condolence, please make use of Matthew's Tribute Wall.
Services are private at this time. Cremation took place at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford, PA.
