Matthew L. Doetsch, 89, a longtime resident of Glenview, passed away on January 15, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Janet Doetsch (née Hoffmann) for 62 wonderful years; the loving father of the late Kathleen Doetsch (the late Jason) Hidy, Pamela Doetsch (Jim) Waldvogel, Matt (Jean) Doetsch, and Jerry (Caryl) Doetsch; and the proud grandfather of Jason Hidy, Kristina (Andi) Hyskaj, Kelly (Stantcho) Bednikov, Alanna Young, James (Allison) Waldvogel, Claire (Matt) Vasquez, Matthew Doetsch, Wolfgang Doetsch, and Augustus Doetsch. He was also a cherished great-grandfather of Noah, Bailey, Weston, Ella, and Ryan; and a dear brother to the late Thomas (the late Trudy) Doetsch. Matt is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Matt lived a full and dedicated life. He grew up on a farm in Buffalo Grove, attended OLPH, and went to High School at St. George. After graduating, he proudly served in the Navy. Upon completing his service, he met and married the love of his life, Jan. He was passionate about car racing, boating on "Sudsy", swimming, vacationing-especially in Hawaii or the Lake House-and spending time with family and friends. Following in his father's footsteps, he became a member of the Des Plaines Elks Club.
As a devoted father of four, grandfather of nine, and great-grandfather of five, Matt always offered prayer, encouragement, and guidance to his loved ones. Matt was a deeply spiritual man and one of the original parishioners at St. Catherine Laboure, where he devoted himself to God. He was kind-hearted and generously supported Catholic Charities and other organizations, making a meaningful impact on countless lives.
Matt's real estate career spanned 65 years and three generations of his family. He began his journey in 1959 at his father's firm, Doetsch Realty. He and Jan worked side by side and later welcomed their son Jerry into the business, forming The Doetsch Team. Matt was highly regarded and trusted in the Glenview community, where he not only built his career but also raised his family. Matt will be deeply missed by the many families, friends, and neighbors he served throughout his life.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine Laboure Church, 3535 Thornwood Avenue, Glenview.
