In Loving Memory of Matthew "Boogie" Franklyn
August 11, 1957 - October 27, 2025
Our father, Matthew R. Franklyn, known to many as "Boogie- was a man whose presence could fill any room with warmth, laughter and love. He was born on August 11, 1957 in Grenada until 19 years old when he migrated to states and made it his new home in Brooklyn New York.
Dad worked hard all his life in Construction- a true craftsman who took pride in every job he touched. But when he was not building, he was cooking. The kitchen was his happy place. He could turn the simplest ingredients into a feast, and if you ever got to taste his food, you know it was made with love. Cooking was not just something he did- it was how he showed he cared.
He leaves behind 3 children who meant the world to him, Alpha, his eldest, Alesha, his middle child, and Abena, his youngest. We were his pride joy, and he made sure we always knew how much he loved us. He will call each of us every morning just to say good morning and have small talk, and whoever he was with at the time he will put them on the phone too, just to say good morning to us. We will miss that so much, and the sound of your laugh.
Everyone knew Boogie- and everyone loved him. He had a way making you feel seen, making you laugh and making you feel at home home. His laughter, his stories, and meals bought people together in a way that only he could. He never wanted nobody to worry about him, you asked how he doing his response always been "Everything fine, don't worry" lol.
We will miss him everyday but we will cany his lessons, his love and his legacy with us always... Rest easy Dad.
He survived by his 3 children who meant the world to him, Alpha, Alesha, Abena, his 2 Step Son's Das fawn Hanes, Kaunda Hill
His Mother Ermine, his sister Claudia and her husband Hovis (Brother N Law)
His Granddaughter, Alana Franklin
His Aunts and Uncle, Auntie Maria, Auntie Elitha and Uncle Jim
His Niece and Nephew, Samantha and Sean
His grandnephew and grandniece, Christian and Elina
And Cousins, Nimrod, Dexter, Charmane, Carl, Che, Todd and numerous of cousins and friends
And the mother of his children and dear special friend, Laver Hill.
