Matthew Yates Goode, 56, of Tarboro NC passed away on January 28th, 2023. A memorial service will be held in June in Texas where he will be laid to rest alongside his mom and dad.
Matt was born April 20, 1966 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Jones and Alice Goode. He was the youngest of four children. He moved with his family to Raleigh, NC in 1967. The family was active at Ridge Road Baptist Church. Matt graduated from Athens Drive High School in 1984. He was a motivated entrepreneur, who used many of his skills and talents as an independent contractor.
For much of Matt's life, he had his life partner by his side, Beverly Ringler. For over 20 years, Matt and Beverly lived and enjoyed life together. They lived in Garner, NC for 15 years before moving to Tarboro in 2017. Beverly was always Matt's champion, loving and taking care of him up until the end.
Matt was a talented athlete, playing baseball and football as a child in various leagues around Raleigh, but soccer was his sport of choice. He played goalie for Athens Drive High School and excelled in the sport until his graduation. He was an excellent golfer, challenging his brothers every chance he got and was also a great tennis player as well. Matt was an accomplished pool player, spending many a night at Snooker's in Raleigh and making new lifelong friends.
Matt was an avid animal lover of all types. He loved his beloved Heidi and his many cats, and found joy in the peace and quiet outdoors feeding the animals. He was a skilled fisherman from the quiet bank of a river to the shore of a sandy beach. Matt loved fishing and Bev was frequently by his side when he let the big one get away.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ruben Jones Goode and Alice Ann Yates Goode. He leaves behind his life partner, Beverly Ringler (Tarboro), as well as three siblings, Jay Goode (Durham), Julie Goode Driggers (Apex), and Lane Goode (Charlotte). If so inclined, memorial donations may be made to your local SPCA.
