Obituary of Matthew C. Hovey
Matt Hovey, long time family member at St. Coletta of Wisconsin passed away on February 23, 2024, after a multi-year struggle with systemic illness. Matt was born on August 17, 1958, to Anthony and Joan (Weaver) Hovey. He lived in Bellevue Washington until he was 24 when he moved to St. Coletta on October 1, 1982. Matt attended St. Coletta School Habilitation program and then in 1984 began working as a custodian. He also worked in the kitchen, on the St. Coletta farm and the Fireside Dinner Theater in Fort Atkinson. In his retirement he attended Golden Options where he enjoyed their daily activities and outings. Matt enjoyed watching sports and movies, hiking, collecting coins and baseball cards. He loved to take care of those around him. No one expected to win when playing Farkle or Trivia with Matt! When Matt's interest on a subject was peaked, he would study and learn everything about the subject.
In Matt's younger years he loved to ride his bike around Jefferson. He also enjoyed a great meal and ice cream. Matt was an amazing self-advocate; he knew his rights and always made sure they were consistently upheld. Matt had a sunny disposition and a wonderful sense of humor.
Matt is survived by his nephew Christopher Maryatt. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Rebecca Maryatt (born Rebecca Hovey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Coletta Chapel in Jefferson on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 1:00pm. Matthew will be interred next to his sister, Rebecca, in Shoreline, WA. Memorials may be made to St. Coletta of Wisconsin in Matthew's name.
He will be missed in our community.
Rest In Peace Matt.
