Fort Atkinson, WI - Ronald D Koenig, 88 passed peacefully at Rainbow Hospice Residence in Johnson Creek.
Ron was a lifelong Fort Atkinson native, graduating from Fort High School in 1956.
He continued his education at Milwaukee School of Engineering, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
His career spanned 37 years, working as a process designer in dairy and food industries, holding a US patent for "Fines Finder" a whey curd separator.
Ron married Kathryn L Kohlman on October 24, 1964. Settling in Fort Atkinson in 1965, they raised their kids and absolutely adored their grandchildren. Together Ron and Kathy painstakingly renovated their home, in which they loved to entertain friends and family frequently. In retirement, Ron and Kathy enjoyed traveling abroad and ultimately celebrated over 50 years of marriage together before Kathy passed in December 2014.
Ron, like his dad John was an avid sportsman. He loved hunting and fishing with friends and family along the mighty Rock River, on Lake Koshgonong and at the family land near Florence Wisconsin. During his time in the National Guard, he took up competitive shooting on the Fort Atkinson National Guard Rifle Team. Ron won the Wisconsin State Championship at 1000 yards in 1977 and continued shooting as a lifelong hobby enjoying many competitive seasons with top 10 finishes in various categories. He was passionate about his duck decoy and antique gun collections and thrilled in sharing the history he discovered connecting these treasures with the local history of Fort Atkinson.
Ron truely enjoyed life and made many friends along the way, notably his very special friend Joan Mittag and lifelong best friend David (Gail) Seavert. He will be remembered for his genuine love for family and friends, his easy smile and infectious laughter.
Ron is survived by children Steve (Karen) and Ellen (Toni), grandchildren Allissa (John) and Brett, sister Karen (Raymond) Tutton, niece Traci Tutton and nephew Tim (Jacki) Tutton, and many cousins.
