Matthew Ladd, Jr. was born March 13, 1943
to the late Matthew and Lillie Ladd, Sr. in
Fairhope, AL He entered eternal rest on Monday,
June 30, 2025 at Baptist Medical Center South,
Jacksonville, FL.
Matthew was raised in Fairhope, AL and
graduated from Baldwin County Training School
in Daphne, AL. He attended the University
Nebraska of Omaha, where he met the love of
his life, Willie Rose Carter. On March 21, 1966,
they married in Omaha, Nebraska. They were a
Godly-Loving couple who stood with one another through
thick and thin.
Matthew Ladd, Jr. was a construction worker and chef.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Henry, Gloston, and
Fred Lee Ladd; and his sister, Bernice Sanders.
Matthew leaves to sustain his legacy, his loving and dedicated
wife of fifty-nine years, Willie Rose Ladd; his union with
Willie Rose brought together: a daughter, Rosemary Ladd of
Jacksonville, FL; Godson, James (Regina) Cobb of Austin, TX;
sister, Vivian McCovey of Mobile, AL; nephews: Edward
Sanders, Ronnie Sanders and Anthony Sanders all of Fairhope,
AL, and Princeton McCovey of Los Angeles, CA; nieces:
Anita Sanders and Debra Sanders both of Fairhope, AL,
Princess Miller of Mobile, AL and Paris McCovey of Atlanta,
GA; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends to cherish
his memory.

Matthew will always be remembered as a gentleman. I will hold dear to my heart the story I heard him tell about our high school English teacher who taught him to use the word "carry" instead of "tote." Sincere condolences are shared with his family and friends. BCTS classmate, Dr. Elva Bradley
