Collinsville, Illinois passed away on Tuesday April 23, 2024. He was born to Maurice and Irene (Vallar) Maney on Sunday, October 24, 1954 in
St. Louis, Missouri.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Maney.
Those left to cherish Matthew's memories are his better half and best friend of twenty-five years Linda Robertson; daughter Elizabeth (Vince) Bibeau; grandkids Sebastian and Madison Bibeau; bonus sons James and Daniel Tow Sr.; bonus grandkids Daniel Jr, Nadalynn (Alec), Kayden, Brady; great granddaughter Amelia; siblings Tim (Margie), Martha (Mike), John (Kathy) and his four-legged companion, Biskit, along with many other friends and family.
Matthew will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Matthew was a devout family man, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Everyone knew Matthew was more of a kid than any of them, which is why the grandkids loved him so, constantly playing tricks on everyone, like hiding Linda's shoes in the pool for her to find. There was always friendly competition when the family would get together and play games, one of Lindas favorites being pool, as it was the one thing she could beat Matthew at. Matthew always kept everyone smiling and laughing, no matter what he had going on himself, he wanted everyone in his company to have a good time.
Matthew also had a love of animals, which he shared with his family. The house always had animals he had found to nurse back to health, be it racoons, or even a squirrel who nested in Lizzy's closet and would eat tomatoes on the windowsill. One of Matthews favorite places to go was to the Zoo, and since he cherished his time with his grandkids, he loved showing them all the different animals, some say Matthew had more fun than the kids on these trips.
Additionally, Matthew had a love for the outdoors and for traveling. He loved ice skating, biking and swimming, he even taught Linda how to swim. Matthew had traveled most of the United States, with aspirations of expanding his traveling one day to France, Germany and Italy. On their many road trips together, Matthew often sang his and Linda's favorite song, "I Cross My Heart" by George Straight. He couldn't carry a tune, but that never stopped him. Their many road trips were filled with singing instead of the radio playing. Matthew and Linda simply enjoyed each other's company.
Matthew loved his cartoons and westerns. He must have watched the Little Mermaid more than a thousand times with Lizzy growing up and continued the tradition with great granddaughter Amelia. You never had to fight for the remote with Matthew as he loved watching what the kids were already watching. Matthew also loved country music, his favorite artists being Patsy Klein, Marty Robbins and Dean Martin.
Services will be held in Matthew's honor on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Herr Funeral Home.
"And if along the way, we find a day
It starts to storm
You've got the promise of my love
To keep you warm
In all the world
You'll never find
A love as true as mine"
